Energy Coordination Method Of Spd Surge Protector
① Increase the line distance between the two-stage SPD (greater than 10m)
By increasing the line distance between the second-stage SPD and the first-stage SPD to be greater than 10m, the distributed inductance between the connecting wires enables each level of SPD to act in stages, so that the overvoltage is limited to below the rated value of the equipment's withstand impulse voltage.
② Install a decoupling device
When the installation space is limited, it is not possible to coordinate the SPD coordination between the two levels by increasing the wire distance. A decoupling device can be installed between the two-stage surge protectors to coordinate the SPD to improve the protection level.
Through the above SPD surge protector energy coordination method, the front-stage SPD is turned on first, so that its discharge capacity is greater than that of the rear-stage SPD, that is, the flow rate is large (for example, the front-stage SPD should discharge more than 80% of the lightning current); the last-stage voltage limit should be less than the withstand voltage of the protected equipment.
