Can Wind Power Surge Protectors Solve The Problem Of Lightning Disturbances Caused By Wind Power Generation?
General wind turbines are usually installed on hills or ridges because the terrain here is much higher than the surrounding terrain. In addition, the soil resistivity at the installation site of wind turbines is generally high, and the conduction performance of lightning current is relatively poor. Therefore, wind turbine generators are often disturbed by lightning and are more susceptible to direct lightning, side lightning and induction lightning. According to data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of 2020, my country's new wind power installed capacity was 71.67 million kilowatts, and the cumulative installed capacity of wind power reached 281.72GW. Therefore, surge protective device situation of wind power is quite severe. Can wind power surge protectors solve the lightning intrusion of wind power?
I. The surge protection device of lightning on wind turbines
Wind turbines are valuable equipment in wind farms, and their price accounts for more than 60% of the investment in wind power projects. However, lightning strikes can cause overvoltage in the electromechanical system of wind turbines. Direct lightning strikes can cause serious damage to wind turbine blades, and induction lightning can cause unimaginable damage to electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, converters, and electronic systems such as control, communication, and SCADA.
When a wind turbine is struck by lightning, in addition to causing a large amount of power generation loss, it also incurs the expensive cost of disassembling and reinstalling the damaged parts and updating the equipment: the cost of a blade is about 500,000 to 600,000 yuan, and the transportation cost + hoisting cost + waste recycling cost + replacement cost of new blades add up to about 2 million yuan.
